The A.P. Møller Foundation Secures Comprehensive Renovation of Egmont Kollegiet

Egmont H. Petersen’s Kollegium in Østerbro, Copenhagen, has received a donation of DKK 20 million from the A. P. Møller and Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation. The grant will fund an extensive renovation and restoration of the dorm’s distinctive architectural features, including the undulating wooden ceiling in the foyer and 22 specially designed kitchens.

Home to 500 students, Egmont Kollegiet is one of the most prominent examples of modernist student housing in Copenhagen. Designed by architect Kaj Gottlob in the 1950s, the building has borne the marks of seven decades of student life. The renovation will therefore also include the replacement of a number of technical installations. The A. P. Møller and Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation has previously supported the refurbishment of corridors and other shared facilities at the dorm.

“We are profoundly grateful for the support of the A. P. Møller and Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation. This contribution makes it possible to carry out a necessary and demanding project,” says Dorte Salskov-Iversen, Head of Department at CBS and Chair of the dorm’s Board.

Work will commence in 2026 and is expected to last three years, during which the dorm will remain occupied. This places significant demands on planning, logistics, and communication.

“We are fully aware that the process will be challenging for both residents and craftsmen. However, through careful planning and close involvement, we aim to carry out the project with as little disruption as possible,” says Jess Pilegaard, Director of Egmont Kollegiet.
